Professional expertise | Practical experience | A personal approach.
We believe that obtaining professional architectural plans for your home should be straightforward, affordable and supported by people who genuinely understand buildings and how they are designed, approved and constructed.
We provide an online architectural plan-drawing service to homeowners throughout Scotland, specialising in home extensions, garage-to-room conversions, new homes and other domestic building projects.
Although our service is delivered entirely online, behind every project is a wealth of professional knowledge, practical experience, and a commitment to providing a high standard of service.
Meet the professional behind plans.scot
Stewart Douglas – Founder & professional lead
plans.scot is managed by Stewart Douglas, a highly experienced, multi-chartered construction and design professional whose career spans more than four decades.
Throughout his career, Stewart has worked across both the public and private sectors, including roles in Building Control and Building Standards with Scottish local authorities, private architectural practice, construction management, and professional building consultancy.
His extensive experience includes the preparation and assessment of building plans, carrying out property and building surveys, inspecting construction work and monitoring building projects from initial design through to completion.
Having worked on both sides of the building approval process, Stewart has developed an in-depth understanding of the Scottish planning and building standards systems, including the technical requirements, practical considerations and challenges involved in obtaining the necessary approvals.
This combination of design knowledge, regulatory experience and hands-on construction expertise provides a strong professional foundation for the services offered by scotplan.

A professionally managed team
While plans.scot offers a modern, convenient online service, we recognise that professional expertise and attention to detail remain essential.
Stewart personally manages the scotplan team, providing professional guidance, technical oversight, and supervision throughout the preparation of architectural drawings and associated applications.
All work is undertaken under his direction, helping to ensure a consistent approach to quality, accuracy and compliance with relevant Scottish building standards and regulatory requirements.
Where projects require additional specialist input, such as structural engineering design or energy assessments, we can assist customers in identifying the appropriate professional services.
Understanding buildings – Not just drawing plans
One of the things that sets scotplan apart is our practical understanding of how buildings are actually constructed.
With extensive experience in building surveying, construction inspections, building control, and site management, we understand that good architectural drawings must do more than illustrate an idea.
They need to take account of building regulations, construction methods, technical requirements and the practicalities of turning a proposal into a completed project.
Our approach combines this experience with modern digital technology to provide homeowners with a professional, convenient and cost-effective service.
Based in Shetland – Serving all of Scotland
plans.scot is proudly based in Shetland, but our services are available to homeowners throughout Scotland.
By operating online and making effective use of digital mapping, photographs, existing property information, and measurements provided by customers, we can prepare architectural plans without the time and expense associated with traditional site visits.
This approach allows us to offer a competitively priced service while maintaining professional oversight and personal attention to every project.
At plans.scot, our aim is simple: to make professional architectural plan-drawing services more accessible, affordable and straightforward for homeowners throughout Scotland.
